How Do You Encourage Self Confidence in Girls?
Several studies show that girls' self-esteem and self-confidence tends to decline after about age nine as girls enter puberty. How do you encourage self confidence and increase self esteem during these early years? There are things that can be done. This article will review some of those things.
Start with limiting your young girl’s television watching. Of course, this is easier said than done. Studies show television programs and advertising can have a negative effect on viewers. Television shows targeted toward children are mixed with many advertising messages. Some of these messages are very subtle, while other messages are quite clear.
Of course we cannot blame the media for everything. We can, however, realize that too much television may negatively affect our children’s self esteem and confidence. For example, children who learn at a young age that food equals happiness, may have problems with body image later in life. Television advertising and programs present ongoing messages to young children that “things” are the solutions to problems and the route to happiness. These messages only exaggerate feelings of low self worth if a child does not possess all these “things,” or the “right things.”
As children age, the "things" can change into a perfect body. Not have the right things can translate into body image problems and other self-destructive behaviors.
Another method of encourage self confidence in young girls is providing positive role models. As girls become more aware of how women around them act and respond to various situations it becomes more important for those women to present positive impressions. If the women in a young girl’s immediate environment hide their anger or express their anger inappropriately the young girl may think it is not okay to be angry, open and honest about angry feelings. The young girl may feel as though she cannot stand up for herself as this is just not an appropriate expression of feeling angry about something. Internal anger can express itself in feelings of low self-esteem and low confidence. Depression may become a problem as the result of repressed anger. Unexpressed anger can surface in very self-destructive ways which may include eating disorders and substance abuse. It is unfortunate that so many women never learn how to express their feelings in an appropriate manner. They did not have positive role models. This cycle needs to be broken if you are going to encourage self confidence in the young girls of your immediate environment. For major issues consider seeking professional help for yourself and for the sake of the young girls in your immediate environment.
It is important to encourage learning and education. There are studies that show girls with a strong educational background are less likely to run into trouble as teenagers. The more your young girls know, the better able they are to make decisions. Encourage learning in math and science. These seem to be two areas where “girls” have been pushed aside in the past. Girls are just as capable in math and science as is boys. This attitude is improving; however, girls are still viewed as less likely to succeed in these areas. Encouragement in math and science can promote increased self confidence and prepare girls for the changing work environment that relies more and more on technology. This is not to say other areas of learning are less important. Encouragement in these areas can help provide balance to an education that is still not quite equal between girls and boys.
Encourage young girls to try new things and discover their talents. Learning what we are good at, and being encouraged to follow these directions, can greatly improve self-esteem and self confidence. When talents or dreams are dismissed, this can easily be perceived as a personal rejection. When girls are encouraged to pursue their interests and develop their talents, they hear the message that they are important. Girls who feel valued by their parents and other important figures in their life are less likely to seek validation from other sources, many of which are not the positive influences desired.
Helping young girls develop a healthy self-esteem and self confidence is an ongoing process. As you work on solutions together, you can help young girls develop independence and the self confidence they need to transition into adulthood.

A Short Review of Symptoms From Low Self-Esteem
Category: Self Healing Tools)A Short Review of Symptoms From Low Self-Esteem
by Connie Limon (Email:
connielimon@yahoo.com) People with low self-esteem often do not live their life to the fullest. They feel so down on themselves they distance themselves from others. People need to be close to others for love and support. People suffering from low self-esteem have a difficult time making full use of their abilities. They spend a lot of time feeling low and down about the injustices of their lives. Such people are a loss to their families and society. Some of them even take to crime, alcohol and drugs. They are uncomfortable with success and tend to believe they don't deserve success. They may blame themselves if things go wrong, and often take a sadistic pleasure in telling everyone else that they knew things would go wrong. This is an important symptom of low self-esteem, and one that needs to be treated at the earliest. Another symptom of low self-esteem is putting oneself down. A person with low self esteem repeatedly tell themselves that they are not good enough and they are destined to fail at anything they attempt doing. Eventually this type of negative self-talk turns into a negative self-belief. More than this are they try and implant seeds of negativity in people around them. They also seek out others who suffer from similar problems, sort of like, "misery loves company." The end result of these types of relationships is that they feed on each other's negativity, and become much poorer individuals than they initially were. Another indicator of low self-esteem can be a high level of dissatisfaction. These people do not see anything positive in themselves or in anyone else. They spend a good deal of their time "complaining." They just can't find anything good about themselves or anyone else. By contrast, people who value their abilities and have more positive feelings about themselves and others enjoy high self-esteem. Do you spend most of your time brooding about the past and worrying about the future? If so, this is an indication that you are suffering from low self-esteem. Not spending enough time in the present will cause you to not enjoy the present even though at the present time you may experience all kinds of success and events that should be pleasant for you. The end result will be that you prevent yourself from enjoying life and experiencing happiness. People with low self-esteem can receive help and become happy, well adjusted individuals contributing to society. The symptoms should be diagnosed by a professional or trained psychologist. Anyone desiring to overcome the symptoms of low self-esteem can even obtain help, sometimes from family members, friends, teachers, or many of the self help and self improvement programs offered on the internet and through our website at Self Improvement Book.

Combining Two Strategies Into One Plan Time Management Skills
Transactional analysis time management is the process of combining two strategies into one plan. Your goal in transactional time management is to reach a specific target. For example, when we are working, playing, or doing anything that connects to a goal, we need social skills and effectual communication to make it work. If we are lacking in social skills and communication our time management scheme will most likely fail.
When I attended college, I had a major problem communicating effectively with people around me. I thought the world was filled with chaos. I lacked confidence in myself to achieve any goal I developed. My life was filled with confusion. I had very few friends since they all talked in a language I could not understand. After attending college and working with my publisher I soon learned the problem was not only my own, but that of others. In fact, they were talking a foreign language.
At college, my speech professor explained dialect. Dialect affects communication and social skills. To become successful we need to understand that each of us is different. Life and time management possess these basic principals that leads to success.
Dialect consists of grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and language. Our world focuses on proper English as a rule to follow that leads us to productivity and effective communication. The fact is most American’s do not know proper English. Basically the reason behind not knowing proper reason is they fail to understand dialect.
I visited my old elementary school and apologized one day to my principal. My old elementary school principal said: “you speak fluent English.” I began to think about that statement!
The American English first came into focus in the earlier centuries and came directly from England. The English Language spoken in the United States is mixed up and visibly distinguished from British England, yet not as different as to be a divided language. This means everyone has their own method of communicating; leading us to believe that proper English is a diverse form of communication and it takes an open mind to communicate effectively as well as having social skills that develop good relationships. We are all different in our own ways, and so are our languages. No one really has the correct way of communicating effectively, yet all of us must conform to some rule. This is where we combine elements of one technique with another to make a complicated skill work. Now to combine transactional analysis to get time management in order, we must open our minds and think creatively to reach a goal. The transitional action is the process of communicative (open-mind) action connecting more than one person or things that equally have an effect on our influence of how we connect. Analysis then is the employ of purpose word in its place of inflectional forms as a characteristic method of a verbal communication. Inflectional is changes in your tone or volume in the voice, and the changes of form that words undertake to mark differences that meet gender, race, mood, tension, voice, number of people and so on in the process of communication and socializing.
Breaking it down, when you keep an open mind you are combining transactional analysis, contributing to time management since social skills and communication are CRITICAL to reaching goals and managing time. We can also consider other facets of analysis that can help us produce effectual communication and social skills.
After carefully analyzing words for years, I come to the conclusion that understanding is part of the speaker’s problem. If you do not understand someone, it might not be you with the problem. If the speaker is not using words properly it can impact all communication negatively. You must learn to listen to speakers, read between the lines as you hear what they are saying. We need to work hard toward a well planned time management scheme if we want to make our dreams come true.
